I've been contemplating a classic conservative looking black leather bag for work for quite
some time. I've been using my Goyard St Louis and it's held up quite
well but sometimes I feel the need for extra pockets and storage. I
narrowed down my picks between a Balenciaga Black City or a Prada Saffiano. Then Fendi came out with their 2Jours in a multitude of colors (still love the black) and Coach has released a sleek looking Borough bag in three sizes. I'm petite at 5'3" and the Goyard is the largest bag I own which is the biggest I can carry. What's your classic work bag?
It's one of my cheaper bags because I beat it up to and from work and throw my lunch in there too. But I use a Longchamp "Le Pliage" Tote.
ReplyDeleteI love your picks, Sabrina! I am also in the market for a structured classic black bag and have been eyeing the Saffiano as well. But also considering Givenchy Antigona and YSL Cabas. Balenciaga is always divine.
ReplyDeleteI use a black medium Chloe Marcie bag, the one without the shoulder strap. It's perfect. I have used nopthing else for work since I got it more than a year ago now. I have the Balenciaga City and I wouldn't call it a classic satchel. I adore it, but the leather is quite thin and fragile and the vibe of the bag is more rock chick/ punky. It's definitely an off-duty bag for me and it wouldn't hold anything heavy without deforming, I think.
ReplyDeleteI actually just purchase a new black purse for work too. I picked the Furla Mediterranean Tote in Onyx that is a Saks exclusive. I have 2 of the Prada Saffiano but decided I didn't want it in black (for varies reasons). The Furla is very similar to the Prada. I especially love the gold accent on the Furla because they aren't too in your face but gives the bag a classic look. Happy Shopping! xo
ReplyDeleteI have the Chanel GST is my classic structured black bag. I've had my eye on the Prada too, but in a different colour. Great selections, that Fendi also looks very tempting.
ReplyDeleteIt's no longer available, but my favorite work bag is my Vuitton Passy GM in black Epi leather. It's very structured and compact but it can hold a file or two and has more internal pockets and dividers than most LV. Mine is 6 years old now and, like almost everything made of Epi, it still looks new.

ReplyDeletePrada has a saffiano bag that is the same structure as the bag you posted but it has a shoulder strap. Te bag is a bit smaller but still holds a lot. I bought it in papaya over the summer and it was my favorite bag. The strap makes all the difference and it is detachable.

ReplyDeleteI think Prada Saffiano would be my pick of the four here! The little pocket seems perfect for hanging a pair of sunnies :)
Depending on where I'm going and what needs to be the bag: 1 file or 3 files; file & Surface (gave up the iPad - need my spreadsheets & Powerpoint); travel/no travel. I primarily use Gucci (either my Britt or Park Ave), Prada City (from the late 90's - in Prada's tessuto, excellent for wet weather), or my go-to Marc Jacobs (vertical, N-S - excellent for laptop/Surface + a couple of files). All have 8-10" strap drops. Short enough for the 5' 3" to carry by hand or sling over your shoulder (even with a coat). Good luck with your purchase!
